With currently almost 70 million likes (as of December 21, 2022, 1:27 p.m.), Lionel Messi’s post about victory in the 2022 World Cup tops the previous top post with the most likes ever on Instagram – “the egg”.
The picture of an egg currently has 57.8 million likes and is posted to the @world_record_egg account, which solely features the record-breaking post until recently. Chris Godfrey’s 2019 post of an egg was specifically aimed at getting the most likes. Many users found this idea so good that they took part – and gave the egg alike. So many that the post held the like record for a long time.
Lionel Messi beats Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of likes with his Instagram post
Lionel Messi and his team recently won the World Cup in football – in his post he thanks his family, among other things, “who have supported him on his football journey.”
In addition to the egg, this post saw Messi outperform one of his biggest competitors on the football pitch and on Instagram: Cristiano Ronaldo! The two opponents recently posed for an attention-grabbing advertising campaign by the luxury brand Louis Vuitton, in which the soccer stars duel in a staged chess game. Ronaldo’s post has garnered 42.1 million likes so far and Messi ‘s post has garnered 32.6 million likes. Ronaldo is the most followed person on Instagram with around 519 million people currently following his account. Last month, he became the first person to reach 500 million followers on the platform.
